Penny was found Friday, May 7,2004 by a Good Samaritan in the community. Her
mother and sibling had been hit and killed by a car. She was sent to two
different rehab facilities, but neither were equipped to handle Penny's
situation so she came to The Florida Aquarium's otter rehab program. Penny's
rehabilitation went well. She was underweight, had parasites and other
ailments common to orphaned otters. She was not a candidate for release back
into the wild due to her age at the time, and remains here at the Aquarium
to entertain guests for years to come. |

The Aquarium's Has
A New Resident:
Ivan, The Terribly Cute!
Ivan the North American river otter is a
three-month-old rescue. He was found by
a family in St. Petersburg
after being attacked by a hawk.
The family believes his mom died as result of an alligator.
He is currently seven pounds and will eventually entertain and
educate Aquarium guests on exhibit. Due to his age at the
time of his rescue, he is not a candidate for release back
into the wild.
North American river otter pups stay with their mother
until they reach an adult age. Ivan has not
had enough time in the wild to survive on his own.
Keep your eyes peeled on the otter exhibit for his debut. |
