The Florida Aquarium has it's own island! Called Fantasy Island!

Working with various state & local agencies, the Aquarium has restored a Hillsboro Bay spoil island to native habitat conditions.

It is maintained as a science laboratory and nature preserve.

Fantasy Island is an ongoing environmental and education project between The Florida Aquarium, Tampa Port Authority and Tampa Electric. Funding for the project came from the Bayside Project Team that also includes the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Hillsborough Environmental Protection Commission, the Gardinier Settlement Trust Fund, Audubon of Florida, Tampa Baywatch, Tampa Electric, HRSG Sales, GE Fund, ABB Inc. Power Plant Automation, Morris Shea Bridge Co., TIC The Industrial Co., Sargent & Lundy, WW Gay Mechanical Contractors, SEC/Fisher Scientific, Shoreline Marine, Inter-Bay Marine, Sims Crane & Equipment Co., Garrison Stevedoring, Eller & Co., Tampa Bay International Terminals and URS Corp.
