This unique exhibit
explores the world of personal aquariums the science, art, history,
business, fun and fascination of keeping fish in your own tanks. Walk through
the home of an aquariumaniac someone who is crazy about fish and
get some ideas on how to create your own home aquarium.
You may think that home
aquariums are a 20th century rage, but for thousands of years people
have enjoyed watching and raising fish. Displays of tanks and
artifacts will illustrate the historical highlights: Chinese
goldfish bowls, Victorian aquariums and mid-20th century funky
artifacts in modern tanks. Local fish hobbyists will also set up
tanks showing off their passion and love of fish-keeping.
As history shows us, people
are fascinated by fish and keep them for a variety of reasons
including scientific exploration, for beauty and for watching and
relaxing. We are sure you will find your own reason to want to have
a home aquarium too. Did you wonder where many of the stores
tropical aquarium fish come from? Well, right here, in Central
Florida. Its the home of many of the nations top producing
tropical aquaculture fish farms. In fact, 85% of the fish sold as
pets were born and bred here in Tampa Bay and todays tropical fish
trade is a global phenomenon, with live fish sent around the world
in record time. Learn how fish farmers make this all possible. Young
kids can role play with bins of fish going off to market or if they
are really lucky get a chance to help feed the fish!
So mark your calendar and get
ready to go crazy about fish tanks! This exhibit is made possible by
